Micro-commissions opportunity for northern ESEA artists
In March, we came together with eleven ESEA creatives for an Away Day to discuss and shape the future of Horizons Collective.
One of the main topics of discussion on the day was the Arts Council England grant awarded to Horizons Collective and how to best make use of the funding.
In our bid, we proposed four micro-commission opportunities where we would support ESEA creatives based in the north of England to develop a project, take part in professional development and showcase their work.
We are pleased to announce that we are inviting B/ESEA^ Performance* artists, creatives and producers based in the north of England to apply for four micro-commissions that have been generously funded by Arts Council England.
The micro-commissions seek to enable the development of a new or existing project, which will lead to a Sharing Day in front of an invited audience.
* This includes (but is not limited to) theatre, dance, circus, cabaret, drag, comedy, spoken word, live / performance art, outdoor arts, community arts / participatory arts, musical theatre, digital and interdisciplinary art forms. Please note we are not looking for applications from artists who are solely writers or musicians at this time.
^ We use the term ESEA to mean those who identify as East Asian or South East Asian living and working in the UK. East and South East Asian descent includes: Brunei, Burma, Cambodia, China, East Timor, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Laos, Malaysia, Mongolia, North Korea, Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam and their Diasporas.
EACH MICRO-COMMISSION WILL INCLUDE:
£3000 towards the research and development of a new production
£500 pot for professional development of the artists and creative team involved
Personal access costs provision
Up to 2 days of rehearsal space at venue (TBC) between Mon 8 - Fri 12 July, and 15 - Fri 19 July
Access to support and mentoring from Horizons Collective representatives, Manli Siu (Secretary) & Grace Ng (Chair) tailored to the needs of your project. This could include support with applying to Arts Council England beyond the micro-commission, advice on approaching other artists and potential partners.
Stage Management and Producing support on Sharing Day
Marketing and advocacy for your project as part of Sharing Day
HOW TO APPLY
To express an interest, please complete THIS SHORT FORM by Monday 13 May 2024.
We wanted to keep the application process as simple as possible, so we’ve kept the form short - we just want to know a bit about your project and how you would use the micro-commission opportunity to develop your practice.
We will then aim to have short, informal follow-up conversations with everyone who has expressed an interest. The purpose of these conversations is for us to meet you, hear more about your project and importantly, to build a connection with you regardless of the outcome of your application.
If you have any questions, please get in touch with us on horizonscollectiveuk@gmail.com.
We look forward to reading your applications!
