Weng U Pun

Weng U (Harley) is a blonde Chinese woman from Macau who has just graduated into a pandemic. She studied English Literature with Creative Writing at the University of Manchester and is going to go onto a Masters in Creative Writing. She was first published at the age of sixteen on 'Affinity', an American social justice magazine written by teenagers who are passionate about the politics, culture and arts around them. Since then, she has had her poetry published in the university’s own student journal and creative writing zine. She has also written film reviews for “The Mancunion”, the largest student university newspaper in the UK.

Weng U is deeply passionate about feminism. Through studying literature she has had the rude but essential awakening that the world has been written by men and for men for too long! She has been involved with the Women's Theatre Society in her university as a writer/performer for their version of Eve Ensler's feminist masterpiece 'The Vagina Monologues'. She also wishes to incorporate her Chinese identity and culture into her English writing, and to stop writing about perfect white girls with blue eyes. She believes that she offers a confident and unique female voice that has been nurtured by her upbringing in Macau and her experience in Manchester as a Chinese woman.

Weng U likes experimenting with her writing–she’s written short stories, poetry, screenplays, and is currently writing a play through the Yellow Earth Writers Academy: Manchester 2020. She would like to write more surrealist pieces inspired by her daydreams and her dreams at night. At the moment, she is also a Dining and Lifestyle writer for 'Macau Lifestyle', a lifestyle magazine dedicated to promoting arts, culture and food of the city of Macau.
