Chris Shapiro
Disabled artist Chris Shapiro is large and contains multitudes. A Japanese Jew born an Edokko, they migrated to London and have also lived in Nottingham, Ho Chi Minh City and Edinburgh before finding their way to Manchester. They centre intersectionality and accessibility in their work.
Their practice is informed by a background of working in comedy – previous employers including Berk’s Nest, Phil McIntyre Entertainments and Pickleboy Comedy – as well as some experience in the poetry world through Poet In the City Producers and Writerz and Scribez, where they were tutored by poet and songwriter Miss Jacqui (@iAmMissJacqui).
Their only joy in life comes from cooking, with particular interest in the history, present and potential futures of innovation and evolution in diasporic food cultures.
Chris is an alumni of Yellow Earth Performers Academy: Manchester.
